Vijayawada is one of the busiest cities in India and a major commercial and transportation hub of Andhra Pradesh. Its geographical position enables connectivity to various regions of south India. The NH16 passing through Vijayawada City is a prominent road link between the three major economic corridors Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. The goods-carrying vehicles and general public commuting via this highway must pass through Vijayawada, leading to heavy traffic congestion.
To mitigate the scenario and to provide a hassle-free journey to commuters, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has taken up the task of six laning of the Vijayawada Bypass road. The MEIL is executing this project between the Chinna Avutupalli and Gollapudi in the Gudugolanu section of NH16.
Once the project is ready, heavy vehicles commuting between Hyderabad and Kolkata need not enter the city. They can be diverted to the bypass, eventually reducing the city's traffic congestion and helping commuters to have a pleasant journey. The MEIL workforce is carrying out the construction works briskly, and soon, the bypass will be open for commuting.
